Creation vs Evolution?
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)
That is the way the Bible begins. Charles Darwin argued otherwise. Did God create man, or did man evolve from apes? Darwin’s 19th century hypothesis was the catalyst for one of the great debates of all time… Creation vs Evolution.
Did God create the heavens and the earth?
Did God create the heavens and the earth, or was the universe formed by the “big bang?” The Bible states that God spoke the universe into existence. Out of nothing, everything was created. It was a conscious act. There was a plan. Some call that intelligent design.
The big bang takes a different approach. There was some kind of cosmic explosion, out of which, came life.
God’s Word Versus Man’s Word… Creation vs Evolution
It gets down to the age old battle between God’s word and man’s word. This is important to consider, because where you begin the argument will have an impact on the results of your seek. There is evidence that needs to be interpreted.
Are Darwin’s findings fact or a hypothesis. It is often called Darwin’s “theory,” but in order to get to the theory stage there needs to be ample proof. In order for something to indeed be a fact, it cannot change over time.
Creation is believed because of faith
It is true or it isn’t. The Biblical account of creation, like all Biblical information, is to be taken on faith. That doesn’t mean the science is flawed, it just means that faith is the key element in our relationship with God, and therefore, we take His word on faith.
Christians have watered down their creation beliefs
Many Christians, who used to be staunch creationists, have watered down their beliefs to accommodate Darwin. They may even assert that those who hold to the creation narrative are just letting their faith get in the way.
But taking a Biblical stance doesn’t mean science isn’t important. Rather it illuminates science. In science, to test a hypothesis, you have to be able to recreate an event. That is test it for viability. You can’t test the big bang, because you can’t repeat it. We are ALL going on circumstantial evidence.
Animals are ordered by their kind
There is macro evolution and micro evolution. Small changes do occur in man and animals. But dogs do not become cats, regardless of time. The Bible says that animals are ordered according to their kind. A lion can be bred with a tiger, but both are big cats. You can’t breed a tiger with a wolf.
Humans are bigger these days. Better food, physical workouts, etc. have led to man becoming heavier. A lineman who weighed 240 pounds in the National Football League back in the 1950’s and 1960’s was considered big. Now big means nearly 100 pounds heavier. Average height and weight has changed, but man is still man.
Accepting Darwin is also a leap of faith
To accept Darwin’s accounting of the origin of man requires faith, a lot of faith. He jumps over gaps in the process. To accept the Biblical account of creation also takes faith. Neither can be put to the test in a scientific laboratory.
Is the Bible God’s word or not?
Is the Bible God’s word or isn’t it? Also, can the Biblical story of creation be reconciled with science? Many believe that is entirely possible.
Think of it this way, the Bible is not a science book, but it’s science is accurate. God tells us that certain things happened. He just doesn’t explain how. It is just as logical to believe that God created man.
The bottom line is faith. What do you have faith in? Man or God?
