What is the Bible?

The Bible
…and the Word became Flesh

The Bible is a book written by men and inspired by God to document how and why the human race was created. It tells us what is good and what is evil. What we should do with our lives and what we should not do. In short, it is the complete handbook for being human and learning to live the life that God has intended for us.

The Bible has been written by over 40 different authors over 1400 years. But, because it is divinely inspired, it is perfect and has no inconsistencies or contradictions. It’s beautifully written and has the most captivating story every written.

It tells the story of Jesus and how God, in love, sacrificed His son so that we can live. It tells of the redemption of the human race and how we can connect with God and Jesus even though we are imperfect and sinful. It explains that we have the choice to follow God’s plan of salvation and eternal life, or make our own choices and deal with life’s difficulties our own way.

The main theme of the Bible is LOVE

Love is the main theme of the Bible. God loves us, Jesus loves us and we are called to love each other as we love ourselves and God. The Golden Rule: “Do onto others as you would have them do onto you” is the simple message of the Bible.

The Bible, when studied and understood, teaches us how to follow the Golden Rule even though man is by nature sinful and hard to love. It shows us how to pray and seek God through Jesus enabling the Holy Spirit to transform us.

With God’s love, we allow Jesus to awaken the Holy Spirit within us, and transform us into people who are loving, kind, gentle, faithful, patient, peaceful, joyous, good, and who have self-control.

Understanding the Bible allows us to enhance our relationship with God our father, Jesus His son, and through the Holy Spirit’s direction, how to live a fulfilling life in an evil and destructive world. This may seem impossible but it is not.

No matter what our circumstances, God meets us where we are at and allows His son Jesus to connect with us. In Christ we are a new creation and our lives can change dramatically.

The Bible is infinite

Because God is infinite the Bible is infinite. It explains the beginning of time and the end of time. It shows us that God and Jesus have always been and will always be. It outlines all of human history from the beginning to the end. It shows us that God is all-powerful, all-loving and all-knowing.

We as humans, have a limited and finite view of the world and of God. The Bible, on the other hand, is a huge book that each of us can study everyday of our lives and still be just at the beginning of understanding. There is no other book created in human history that in any way compares to the immensity, beauty, thoroughness and complexity of the Bible.

That’s why reading and understanding the Bible is so critical and wonderful at the same time. It opens up the world to us in a way that nothing else can. God, because He loves us, is seeking us. Understanding the Bible opens up God to us for a completely wonderful transformation.
