Pentecost: Jesus Delivers the Holy Spirit to Believers

by Debbie Wicker BCCC

We are continuing our series on the key events of the Bible, and today we come to Pentecost.

But what is Pentecost?

Pentecost is the moment when Jesus fulfilled His promise to send the Holy Spirit to His followers. It marks the day God poured out His Spirit upon believers, giving us comfort, guidance, wisdom, and peace through His presence.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

In the Gospel of John, Jesus spoke these words to His disciples before His crucifixion:

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth.”
— John 14:16-17

Jesus assured His followers that they would not be abandoned. He promised that the Holy Spirit would come to dwell within believers, teaching them, guiding them, and reminding them of His truth.

In John 14:15-31, Jesus explains that the Holy Spirit is a gift from the Father sent in His name. Through the Holy Spirit, believers experience the presence of God in their daily lives.

Jesus Gives Us the Holy Spirit

After Jesus rose from the dead, He remained on the earth for forty days before ascending into heaven. Then, on the day of Pentecost, He sent the Holy Spirit to His disciples just as He had promised.

Today, when a person believes in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within them. The Spirit guides us toward truth, goodness, peace, and righteousness. He comforts us, strengthens us, and helps us grow closer to God.

For those who do not yet believe, the Holy Spirit still works gently in their lives — drawing them toward faith, truth, and the love of God the Father through Jesus Christ His Son.

I Feel the Holy Spirit Daily

Every morning I wake up feeling refreshed and redeemed. I begin my day by praying to God the Father and asking Him to guide me in His everlasting ways.

I ask:
“Lord, what do You have for me today?”

It is a wonderful way to begin each day.

As a Christian counselor, I often meet with people who do not know God personally. Many wake up feeling anxious, bitter, angry, or overwhelmed. Instead of embracing the day with hope, they simply try to endure it.

People often worry constantly about their jobs, finances, health, relationships, or children. Their anxiety begins before the day even starts.

Yet many studies on longevity and emotional health point to the importance of maintaining a positive and purposeful outlook on life. God created us to live with hope, peace, and trust in Him — not trapped in fear and despair.

Turn Toward Jesus and Receive the Holy Spirit

God is the answer.

Turn toward Jesus and allow Him to calm your anxiety through faith and surrender. Trust that He loves you and will care for you no matter what happens in this earthly life.

Examine your heart and allow the Holy Spirit to restore and renew you, just as He came upon the believers more than 2,000 years ago at Pentecost.

The Holy Spirit was with the disciples then, and He is still with believers today.

What a wonderful gift from God.

Pentecost: One of the Most Important Days in History (That Many People Don’t Know About)

Pentecost is more than just a religious holiday—it’s a pivotal moment in human history. It’s the day that Jesus fulfilled His promise and gave the Holy Spirit to His followers. Yet, surprisingly, many people have never heard of it or don’t understand its significance.

What Happened on Pentecost?

After Jesus rose from the dead and spent 40 days with His disciples, He ascended to heaven. Ten days later—on the Jewish festival of Pentecost—something incredible happened:

“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.”
(John 14:15–17)

This is the moment Jesus had promised: the coming of the Holy Spirit.

In the book of Acts, we see this prophecy fulfilled:

“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people… And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
(Acts 2:17–21)

The Holy Spirit came upon the apostles like a rushing wind and flames of fire, and they began to speak in other languages, declaring the wonders of God. This event marked the birth of the Church and the beginning of a new relationship between God and humanity.

Why Is Pentecost So Important?

1. It Changed Our Access to God

Before Pentecost, God’s presence was limited. In the Old Testament, only the high priest could enter God’s presence—once a year—on behalf of the people. That changed when Jesus came, died for our sins, and rose again. But when Jesus ascended, He sent us something even greater:

The Holy Spirit—God’s presence living within us.

Now, anyone who believes in Jesus—Jew or Gentile—has full access to God through the Holy Spirit. As a Gentile (someone who is not Jewish), this means God’s kingdom is open to me, and to you.

2. It Means God Is With Us 24/7

When you believe in Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit:

  • You are never alone.
  • You have constant access to God.
  • You are guided, comforted, and empowered from within.
  • You become part of God’s eternal kingdom.

“Because I have called on Jesus and have the Holy Spirit in my heart, I have access to God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit—24/7.”

There is no greater treasure. No earthly thing compares to knowing that God is within me, guiding me, and loving me every step of the way.

Why Don’t More People Know About Pentecost?

Most Christians celebrate Easter—the resurrection of Jesus—as the most important day in history. And rightly so! But Pentecost, which happens 50 days later, is often overlooked.

Yet Pentecost is the day the Church was born.
It’s the day God’s Spirit came to live in His people.
It’s the day the Good News was opened to the whole world.

“When Jesus delivered the Holy Spirit to all of us, the world was totally changed.”

What Should You Do With This?

Here’s how you can respond to this life-changing truth:

  1. Read the book of Acts — especially Acts 1 and 2. See how the Holy Spirit came and what happened next.
  2. Call on the name of Jesus — believe in Him and ask Him to give you the Holy Spirit.
  3. Be willing — surrender your life to Him. When you do, your life will be totally transformed.

“If you become willing to do this, it will TOTALLY transform your life.”

✨ Final Thoughts

Pentecost is not just an event in the past—it’s an invitation for today.
It’s God reaching out to you with His Spirit, love, and eternal life.

Praise God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit for Pentecost.

If you’ve never experienced this for yourself, now is the time.
God’s Spirit is available—right now—to anyone who believes.

“And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Acts 2:21)
